The festive season brings with itself so much sweetness in our lives. Like literally. A meal is incomplete without a dessert in most Indian households, especially when the festive season is in full swing!

Medium-sized pears (4)
Medium-sized lemon (1)
Sugar (1/2 cup)
Cinnamon sticks (2-3)
Saffron (few strands)
Sea salt (a pinch)
Replace sugar with a natural sweetener such as honey and adjust the amount according to your preference, says Jyotsna
1. Zest some lemon in a bowl and mix it with the pinch of sea salt and sugar. Add this to a saucepan along with a cinnamon stick, and stir regularly on low heat. You can also add clove and star anise here.
2. Now cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the saucepan. Keep stirring.
3. When the sugar starts to melt, add the pears and cover the pan.
4. Reduce the heat and simmer the pears for 25-30 minutes, or until tender.
5. When the syrup thickens (reduced to almost half), switch off the heat and take the pears out.
6. Place them on a plate, discard the whole spices and drizzle the poaching liquid (syrup) on top.
7. Garnish with cinnamon powder, some whipped cream or a dash of nutmeg before serving.
