Frozen 2 review: Don’t let it go!

With Frozen 2 fever at its peak, I decided to make it my first movie in a theatre after three long years. That’s a story for another day. So here goes my two cents. Spoiler alert!

Powerful message

The storyline goes something like… We are all growing a little older and we must confront our past in order to move forward. You might want to ignore its calling, but you cannot.

Just like we must face the demons of our past in order to step into the future, so does Elsa and Anna, who must right the wrongs of their past.

The movie also sends a powerful message to both children and adults alike; that it’s great to be magical (Elsa) but even if you are not (Anna), your inner strength can take you places, give you the confidence to fight against all odds for your loved ones and be victorious.

Special effects

Oh, they are just breathtaking. I didn’t watch it in 3D and yet, it was one of the best special effects I have seen in a Disney movie for children. The magical horse Nokk has my heart ❤️ forever!

Best Disney prince ever?

Kristoff is such a refreshing hero! Anna is in love with him but never depends on him. He never saves her. (thank you Disney!) and that’s so rare to be seen onscreen.

For me, the scene or the words that defined their relationship were spoken when Kristoff helped Anna run away from the Earth Giants. As he sweeps her off the ground, he tells her, “I am here. What do you need?” rather than being, well, a typical hero!

Finally, we see a hero being vulnerable and singing about his love for a brave girl. You don’t see that often, do you?

My new favorite

The song Anna sings, “The next right thing” is my latest motivation track! Do listen to it as its meaning goes beyond the fact that it is part of a children’s movie. When it feels like there’s no hope, just do the next right thing.

To conclude, please watch it with a child/ren and relive your childhood through Elsa and Anna’s journey of growing up. Do not miss this one people!
