Women And Financial Independence

In the present changing scenario, women have carved a niche for themselves in a male-dominated society, and have been able to find financial independence and stability for themselves. With a career of our own, women are able to put forth our thoughts, needs, and ambitions with more conviction as we gain financial independence.

For those of us who still have doubts whether they want to become financially independent before getting married, I would like to bring to notice a few things that we must share with young girls, and also society in general, to build a stronger force of independent women.

1. Contribution to household income

As a financially independent woman, the first thing that you are able to do for your family is to supplement the household income and provide for a better lifestyle. You are also better prepared to face the ever-increasing cost of living and handle inflation. In my opinion, it is also a way to thank your family who must have stood against many odds to make you strong and independent.

2. To be able to have better hold on life decisions

Financial independence does not only make your financial base stronger but also gives you hold over important decisions for your family and your own life, especially when it comes to choosing a life partner.

3. To boost confidence and create happiness

With a lot of hard work and perseverance, you have fulfilled all your ambitions and accomplished a feat. You have a job and are financially independent. This not only reflects in your personality as confidence but also brings a lot of happiness. You can now fulfill your long lost desires and seek a life you always wished for.

4. To be more responsible and self-reliant

Having a self-built financial cushion makes one feel more responsible for their own career and life. No more do you have to rely on someone else to fulfill your wishes or needs, be it pursuing a new course or going on a trip with your friends. You are able to make better and thoughtful professional or personal choices.

5. To be able to handle financial hardships

With a little concentration on your professional growth and financial security, you can build a strong financial corpus. This will make you well-equipped to handle any financial crisis for your family. This also empowers you to take major life decisions for your future. Your financial stability will also definitely help you to have a better lifestyle even after marriage.

6. Gain perspective on one’s own life

When young women go out to work, sometimes even in different cities, there is so much that they learn. By investing initial years in your career, you become better off in many ways. Real-life experiences and exposures help you to develop into matured and emotionally stable human beings. This way you also can handle your married lives with more maturity and wisdom.

We also understand that not all women are able to gain financial independence before marriage, or even after marriage, especially if the couple has kids early into the marriage. For all women including stay-at-home-moms and -wives, we will be publishing an article on the importance of financial awareness, next Thursday (September 12, 2019).
